Yellow spring, golden body, finest inner life – Öhlins-dampers are, as far as brand awareness is concerned, the power in the market. The distance to the second in the row, Wilbers (you know, the ones with the blue spring) seems impossible to catch up. During this year, the gap even widened although the name of the manufacturer (Öhlins, Öl = oil) sounds like the old joke about a leaking suspension unit. Of course it is not known if really everybody who likes the suspension elements from Sweden really would buy one, after all most Mercedes lovers drive Golf, but that also is a question of money. On the other hand, especially when it comes to motorcycle suspension it seems as if really it is NOT about money at all… The OEM shocks are better than ever, most motorcyclists don’t even ride their bike long enough to use up the originals before reselling it… “Öhlins front and rear” the expensive aftermarket brand is something for the motorcycle gourmet, something like an expensive watch! Beautiful to look at, nice to show around, fascinatingly functioning, in short, indispensable.
