Joe Dakar and the BMW R 1200 GS Silver-X

Joes travel to Syria: There and back again! This was another challenging trip for our suspension elements but one that we, after the Siberia tour in 2004, willingly accepted. And so, Joe Dakar started in mid-January 2005 with his BMW R 1200 GS Silver-X, made by the company Wunderlich on his long journey! This journey included extensive excursions in the desert where Joe had the opportunity to ride the BMW on desert tracks, to dirty the bike and to ill-treat the suspension in the worst ways possible. The roads through the desert are well asphalted so he found most of his riding delight off-road! His final judgement: “The high Wilbers suspension is ideal for the hard and rocky surface of the Syrian desert so that I’m able to speed through the desert at 120 km/h in spite of my fully encumbered bike!” Needless to say that we are quite satisfied with his judgement, that inspires us to execute other developments and long-term tests. The test saw the BMW sometimes overcome more than 900 km a day through the Syrian mountains, the desert, over gravel and asphalt in sunshine, rain, ice and snow! A nice side effect is the joy one has when reading the detailed travelogues of Joe Dakar and when looking at the brilliant pictures he took. Further information about this and other trips you find at: www.wunderlich.de and www.joedakar.com.
